I’m Kimberly Kitchen, Founder & Executive Director of Generations Renewed, A Community Development Corporation.
Generations Renewed was established in 2017 with a very specific mission: To invigorate Youth, Their Families & Communities to eliminate generational Poverty & Hopelessness. We commit to energizing the family, by focusing on the younger generation. We believe by focusing on the children, we are focusing on the Future of the family this strategy, has been proven in our own community.
Youth has the ability to stimulate the mindset of an older wiser generation, by awaking the desire in them to share the traditions and secrets from the past, while relating to and stimulating the curiosity of the future generation. The cynic has the ability to downplay the importance of: Faith, Family and Community, but because we are a family that has survived connected to past and present values, morals, hopes and dreams from Faith, Family and Community we stand firm in our vision to end generational poverty, One Family at time. Generations Renewed, A Community Development Corporation the name says it all, we have to renew in order to rebuild, we have to renew in order to reform, but most of all we have to renew our minds in order to reposition our Future.
My own story is one full of barriers that should have ended our journey, but we stand today serving communities that struggle to understand that the path from homelessness, un/underemployed, hungry and hopelessness is possible generation to generation. Through Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship, Empowerment and Engagement we are rebuilding our family with the purpose of leaving legacy for a strong community. My family; husband, sons, daughter and grandchildren all serve the community through Generations these 5 E’s changed and impacted our lives and today we continue to stand firm on these building blocks, they worked for us. 17 years ago, my father began celebrating Christmas day with a family breakfast, today many of the elders of our family have transitioned on to be with the Lord, but 2023 will be 18 years that five or more generations of family will have Christmas breakfast together in the same house my parents lived.
